Secrets to Keeping your Teeth
Secret #1 is to become a brushing and flossing expert.
Learn the proper techniques and then put them into your daily routine. I recommend brushing 2x’s a day for two minutes and flossing once a day. Adding a Water-pik one time a day will help those people that struggle with chronic gingivitis. Note: The Reach Access flosser helps make flossing much easier!Secret #2 is fluoride.
Fluoride will strengthen your teeth as they grow, and also protect fully grown teeth by decreasing root sensitivity and reducing cavities. Make sure you choose a toothpaste with fluoride. You can also use fluoride rinses or brush on gels as directed by your dentist or dental hygienist.Secret #3 is fix your teeth.
If something is chipped or broken have your dentist repair it. If there are areas of soreness, food trapping, extreme crowding, or old fillings that are falling apart have them treated. This will prevent you from having bigger problems or pain in the future.Secret #4 is watch what you put in your mouth.
Limit the intake of sugary foods and sodas. Soda actually has acid in it that can dissolve enamel and cause the teeth to decay (this includes diet soda). The sugar we eat in our diet is broken down into acid which then breaks down enamel and increases cavities. Be sure to brush and floss after eating sugary foods.Secret #5 is take time for maintenance appointments with your dentist and dental hygienist.
Continuing care with a dental professional is essential for keeping the bacteria and toxins in your mouth regulated. These visits will be used for evaluating your oral dental health as well as your overall general health. You should see your dental hygienist a minimum of 2x’s per year.As a dental team it is our goal to treat dental disease and restore oral health. We will educate you and provide you with the techniques you need to enjoy a healthy smile for a lifetime.
