WHAT IS DENTAL INSURANCE?Dental insurance is a contract between your employer and a dental insurance company. The benefits that you will receive are based on the terms of the contract that were negotiated between your employer and the dental insurance company and not your dental office. The goal of most dental insurance policies is to provide only basic care for specific dental services. The benefits that you receive from your dental insurance company have nothing at all to do with your achieving a high quality complete result of dental care. Because the benefits you currently have are decided between your employer and the insurance company, many services are not covered. That is why so many dental patients become confused about dental insurance. Dental insurance companies rarely cover 100% of any dental fee, and in many cases, cover less than 50% or nothing at all.
COVERED AND NON-COVERED SERVICESUnfortunately, some of the services that you may need or want will not be covered by your dental insurer. Our goal is to help you achieve and maintain optimal dental health, which is not necessarily the goal of your dental insurance company. The purpose of dental Insurance is to ensure you have access to basic dental services and should a major dental problem occur, your costs may be offset in many cases through coverage from the dental insurance. It is important to understand that most dental insurance, just like other insurance, is not intended to ensure your teeth and oral health is 100%. It is to help offset the costs towards obtaining 100% oral health. While some employers offer dental insurance that provides good oral health coverage, most do not. However, that does not mean you should not strive to obtain 100% oral health. Good oral health is important to overal health!
We do not want to restrict your dental care based on restraints placed by an insurance company. We will give you all your treatment options and provide you with enough information so that you can make an educated decision about your dental care.
Most patients do not realize that each dental insurance plan has a dollar amount limitation each year. Once this limit is reached, no other services will be covered by your dental insurance company regardless of how essential the service may be to your dental and overall health.
